Wayne Sanford 93, formerly of Albion, NE, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Custer Care Assisted Living Center in Broken Bow, NE.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Albion, NE with Rev. Vern Olson officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion, NE with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736.

Wayne was born near Bartlett, NE on July 10, 1921 to Albert and Ethel (Snelson) Sanford. He attended Albion High School and then worked on a hay crew in South Dakota before entering the United States Army on September 19, 1942. Stationed in northern Africa, he served with the Signal Corps during WWII, before receiving an honorable discharge on October 22, 1945.

Wayne married Marion Anna Ewing on June 1, 1947 at the Loretto Methodist Church in Loretto, NE. They made their home and farmed near Albion. Wayne also worked at Farmers Co-op for many years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Albion, the Albion VFW Post #736 and volunteered as a 4-H leader.

Wayne is survived by his children: Craig (Kathy) Sanford of Phoenix, AZ; Cindy (Scott) Kugler of Kearney; Bryan Sanford of O’Neill; Connie (Steve) Scott of Broken Bow; nine grandchildren: Heather (Todd) Verkest and Ashley Sanford, all of Phoenix, AZ, Stephanie (Doug) Ourada of Hastings, Anna Kugler of Kearney, Shelby Sanford of Hastings, Logan Sanford of O’Neill, Stephanie (Heath) Paulsen of Oconto, Melissa (Jesse) Pandorf of Kearney and Michael Scott of Santa Ana, CA; eight great-grandchildren: Presley Verkest, Porter and Caroline Ourada, Kaden and Connor Paulsen, Grant, Jackson and Madison Pandorf; one sister: Darlene (Bill) Leddy of Red Bluff, CA, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Alvera and Verla.
