Joseph Thomas Andrade, Jr. of Neptune, was called home to be with the Lord, Sunday, October 10, at his home after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born on August 24, 1925 in his home in Colts Neck, NJ from the proud parents of the late Jose Joaquim Andrade and the late Maria Beatrice Brito of Sao Vicente Island of Cabo Verde (comprising the ape Verde Islands, in the North American Ocean). He was educated in Parochial Schools in both Asbury Park and Belmar, NJ.

Joseph married Clara Stanton on December 25, 1952 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Salem, NJ. Three children came from this union, adopted daughter Pamela Stanton Andrade Gilmore, daughter Mary Jo Andrade Burkhard and son Joseph Andrade III.

Joseph was a communicant of St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church in Asbury Park. He was also a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Salem while living there for 13 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving this country for 10 years; he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1955. He was awarded; Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, ROK Presidential Unit Emblem and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post # 266, Neptune for 17 years.

He worked for Anchor Hocking Glass, Corp. in Salem for a number of years before moving to New Shrewsbury (now Tinton Falls) in 1966. He was employed and retired from New Jersey Department of Transportation in 1988.

He was predeceased by his daughter Pamela Andrade Gilmore, one brother Anthony Andrade and his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and Mahlon Thomas, Ettelvina Andrade, Josephine and Nelson Butler, Rose Shannon, Agnes and Marcellus Clay and Joan Jenkins, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Betty and Aubrey Turner.

He leaves to mourn his devoted and loving wife of 52 years Clara, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Bruce Burkhard of Tinton Falls and her children Ken Dorsett, Shante (Threatt) Dorsett, James Burnett and DeWayne Burnett. His son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Katrina Andrade III of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her child Nelson Brittingham. His late daughter Pamela's children, Colleen and Allen Thomas and their two children, Joseph Andrade and his four children and Carolyn Andrade and her two children; one sister Antoinette Andrade of Willingboro, sister-in-law Marva Andrade of Raleigh, North Carolina, two brothers-in-law Bernard Jenkins of Neptune and John Shannon of Westland, Michigan; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and beloved friends.

He was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Services were held on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 11am at St. Peter Claver Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park, NJ.
