Joan M. (Hyatt) Drennan-Taylor passed from this life at the Gentiva Hospice house on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the age of 73 years. Joan formerly resided in New Braunfels, Texas with her daughter until her illness.

She was born in DeQuincy, Louisiana in June 1942 and was preceded in death by her husband, Bill D. Taylor, her parents, C. E. and Debra Hyatt of DeQuincy, Louisiana and New Braunfels, Texas. Joan M. Drennan-Taylor is survived by her daughter, grandson, brother and sister-in-law, and an aunt of Blair, Oklahoma along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, California, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

Bill and Joan attended the Northern Oaks Church of Christ on Redland Road in San Antonio, Texas. Joan was a former member of the New Braunfels Church of Christ where she met Bill D. Taylor and they were married in May 1992. Joan graduated from DeQuincy High School in 1960. Joan went on to McNeese College, Louisiana State University and Southwest Texas University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Education and Music then a Master's degree in Education. Joan was an educator for 44 years before retiring to take care of her pride and joy, her grandson.


Joan taught a couple years at St. Peter & Paul Catholic School, Schertz Elementary School in the SCUCISD for six years. She taught the majority of her career at Smith Elementary in the SAISD. She worked on Project 2061 for math education. She was Educator of the Year. She retired as the Director of the Center for Leadership in Science, Mathematics and Technology at the ACCD providing professional development for teachers in Texas.

Joan was direct with a soft undertone, hardworking and a professional. Joan loved the Lord, family and friends without measure. The struggle of her life ended for Joan at 1:15 p.m. on October 11, 2015.

The funeral services will be under the direction of Rodney Bankens her cousin of Mississippi.

Services were on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Zoeller Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
