The Reverend William Charles Thorn passed away peacefully at his home in Georgetown, Kentucky on Friday, October 16. He was born on May 2, 1938 in Beacon, New York to the late Harold and Margaret Cooper Thorn. He grew up in Kingston, New York and graduated from Kingston High School. After High School, Reverend Thorn joined the New York Army National Guard and began employment with IBM.

In 1957 he moved with his parents to Georgetown where he continued his employment with IBM Lexington as well as transferring to the Kentucky Army National Guard. In total, he served 5 years in the Army National Guard. In 1995, he completed a five-year course of study at Emory University where he received his ministry credentials.

William or "Bill" Thorn worked 33 years as a Manager for IBM in Lexington, Kentucky. He also served as a Methodist Minister for more than three decades in Scott, Harrison, Owen, Powell and Bourbon Counties. In addition to his time with IBM and Pastoral activities he served as Scott Country High School Band Booster President, President of Junior Pro Basketball as well as coach of several baseball and basketball teams. Reverend Thorn served on the boards of the A.M.E.N house and the Georgetown-Scott County Parks and Recreation. For many years he was an active member of the Optimist club. And was a member of the Society of Kentucky Colonels.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Peak Thorn and two sons and daughters-in-laws, Timothy Jay and Melissa Sams Thorn and Brian Keith and Angie Whaley Thorn as well as the following grandchildren: Trevor Thorn, Seiara Thorn, Lincoln Thorn, McKayla Sutton, Briana Thorn, Priscilla Thorn, Brian Thorn II and Carson Thorn and great-granddaughter Logan Thorn. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great grandchild he is also survived by his Sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Chuck Safransky, and special sister-in-law Alice Peak, and the following nieces and nephews: Jeff Peak, Onie Peak, Michelle Peak, Eddie Peak, Joyce Seals, Gary Thorn, Tracey Handschuh, Leslie Safransky Musick, Gracie Safransky Flannigan and Michael Safransky. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Vincent Jr. and Jay Leslie, and two sisters, Priscilla Jean and Lois Elizabeth.

Visitation for Reverend Thorn will be Monday, October 19 from 5 to 8 PM at Tucker-Yocum&Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky. His funeral will be Tuesday, 11 AM at Georgetown First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Fryman and Rev. Greg Gallaher officiating with burial immediately following at Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Peak, Onie Peak, Trevor Thorn, Lincoln Thorn, Brian Thorn II and Scott Kries.
