William Robert Noland peacefully passed away at home on October 15, 2015 at 6:12 a.m. at age 89.

Born on March 28, 1926 in Monroe, Michigan, he was the only child of William F. and Viola L. (Parker) Noland. He married the love of his life, Therese (Terrie) L. Klimek, in 1950 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 6, 2015.

Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hard-working, quiet and humble man with a positive attitude and a perpetual sense of humor.

He attended St. Michael Grade School, the Hall of Divine Child, and graduated from Monroe High School in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces in July of 1944. He began as a bombardier cadet in San Angelo Texas Training Center and then was stationed at Keesler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he was a parachute packer and trained to be a pilot, attaining the rank of Corporal.

After his discharge from the military in 1945, Bill worked in construction for his father, William F. Noland, as a crane operator and later became president of Wm. Noland & Sons, Inc. until he retired in 2006. He worked on hundreds of building and demolition projects in and around Monroe, and his favorite crane jobs included setting steeples and crosses on many of the local churches. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 for over sixty years.

Bill was a lifelong member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Monroe. As a parishioner, he served as an usher for sixty years, as a parish council member, as the president of the Marian Place Board, as vice-president of the Holy Name Society, and also served on many committees. He and his wife, Terrie, were Eucharistic Ministers for the homebound for thirty years.

He was a committee chairman of St. Michael’s Boy Scout Troop 547 and served as a representative for over fifty years. Bill was a Charter Member of the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department with 44 years of service. He was a board member of Holiday Camp and St. Joseph Cemetery. As president of the Monroe Easter Seals Society, he founded its local telethon. He was also a member of the Monroe Comboni Missionary Men’s Auxiliary and Monroe Council 1266 Knights of Columbus.

Bill will be remembered for his diligent work ethic, his devotion to his faith, and his willingness to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed gardening, deer hunting in Grayling, traveling with his wife, especially to Hawaii, visiting cousins on Put-in-Bay, bird watching, repairing things in his workshop, and caring for family pets. He also played Santa Claus for numerous organizations and family members for many years.

He is survived by five children, David (Anne) Noland of Monroe, Christina Roehl of Santa Rosa, CA, Amy (Ian) Cooke of Monroe, Bruce (Annmarie Borucki) Noland of Rochester Hills, Renee Hill of Providence, RI, and grandchildren Megan Noland, Reina Cooke, Daniel Cooke, Pierce Noland, and Leo Noland, and his cat, FurFace.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Terrie, in June 2015, daughter, Donna Noland in 2010, and son-in-law, Dr. Richard Roehl in September 2015.
