Daughter of John and Julia Lamb Hester; married George Hartman in 1939

Catherine M. Hartman, 104, of Cedar Grove, N.J., died Wednesday morning after a brief illness. She was married to the late George W. Hartman, who died in 1987. The couple had been married for more than 48 years. Born the daughter of the late John and Julia Lamb Hester, Catherine was a past member of St. Patrick's Parish in Scranton. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and was later employed by the telephone company. She enjoyed playing piano and played for many organizations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines barbershop group. She is survived by two sons, George and wife, Barbara, of Nutley, N.J; and David and wife, JoAnne, of Randolph, N.J; six grandchildren, Debbie, Steven, Chris, David, Greg and Natalie; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Michael and Faith. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Richard and John Hester. The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. from the Morell LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Dunmore. A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1605 Oram St., Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
