Anna Pedersen was born Ane Hansdatter on 18 May 1848 in Kirkerup, Roskilde, Denmark to Hans Sorensen and Birthe Hansdatter. She was baptized on 2 July 1848 at the Kirkerup church.

She lived her childhood years in Kirkerup but in 1853 when she was 5, her father Hans died. Her mother remarried Lars Sorensen a year later.

On 2 February 1868 at the Kirkerup church, she married Niels Pedersen at the age of 19. They just had their first daughter, Bertha, a month earlier.

Niels had big dreams and with land becoming scarce in Denmark, he left Anna, 6 months pregnant, and their 3 year old daughter Bertha, to immigrate to America. Anna and their second daughter, Anna Hansena "Sena", followed Niels a year later and immigrated to America. Their eldest daughter, Bertha, was left in the care of Anna's parents, Birthe and her second husband Lars Sorensen.

Anna and Sena left from Stettin, Germany in April 1872 on the SS Franklin and arrived in New York at Castle Garden on 4 May 1872. Their final destination was given as Chicago, Illinois.

By 1876, Niels, Anna and Sena are living in Monroe County, Iowa where they welcomed a new daughter, Laura Pedra. They farmed in Monroe County for a few years and then moved to Hamilton Township, Franklin County. The Pedersen family farmed in Hamilton Township and made this new land their home.

In 1879, Anna's parents Birthe and Lars Sorensen, along with Anna and Niels' 11 year old daughter Bertha, immigrated to America.

Niels and Anna had 9 children that lived to adulthood:

1. Bertha Christina "Stina" (1868-1942)
2. Anna Hansena "Sena" (1871-1962)
3. Laura Pedra (1876-1933)
4. Emma Lena (1878-1945)
5. Lars Peter (1880-1951)
6. Hans Theodore (1883-1955)
7. Anna Dorothy (1886-1916)
8. Axcel Peder (1888-1914)
9. Rudolph Nels "Ted" (1890-1955)

In 1895, both Anna's mother and husband passed away when she was 47. In 1906, her stepfather passed away. Anna would spend the rest of her life living with her children Axcel and Ted in Franklin County.

Anna passed away at the age of 80 on 18 April 1929 in Franklin County. She is buried at St John's Lutheran Church.
