Richard L. Parsons, 69, passed away peacefully Friday evening October 2, 2015 at his Upper Deerfield Township home.

The husband of Carole L. Parsons (nee Halter) they were married on August 18, 1970. Richard was born in Bridgeton on June 28, 1946. He was the son of the late Walter and Sara Lydia (nee Parr) Parsons. A graduate of Bridgeton High School with the class of 1964, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He saw active duty off the coast of Vietnam on a “swift boat.” Following his honorable discharge, he matriculated at Cumberland County College.

For 32 and a half years, Mr. Parsons worked at Mannington Mills in Salem. Serving in several positions, he worked for the last part of his career as a member of the plant’s security department.

He was a member of the Friesburg Emmanuel Lutheran Church and was proud of his membership at Shoemaker Post #95 American Legion in Bridgeton. He served as the adjutant at the legion and was a member of their pool league. He loved camping at the Jersey shore and enjoyed being a “snow bird,” spending winters in Myrtle Beach SC. In his younger years, he was a member of several bowling leagues and more many years enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was proud to say he had played on golf courses in 11different states. He was also an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.

Richard was a friend of Bill W.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Angela Allen (George) of Salem County, one son, Shawn W. Parsons of Hopewell Twp., four grandchildren, Jared Parsons, Ashley, Logan and Seth Parsons, five siblings, Walter C. Parsons Jr. (Renee) of Hopewell Twp., Lillian Weller (Jim) of Ellendale, DE, Nancy Heben (John) of Johnstown, PA, Leon Parsons (Wilma) of Laurel Lake and Sylvia Parsons (Elden Tunnell) of Milford, DE and their families and sister in law, Constance Halter. Richard was predeceased by a brother, Howard Parsons and his wife's parents, Herbert and Doris Halter..

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services with military honors at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton on Wednesday October 7th at 12 Noon.

Pastor Edgar Wiker will officiate.

The burial will take place privately at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday morning from 10:30 until Noon.
