A Family Of Ball Players.
The Friels of Renovo Celebrated and Popular on the Diamond.
One of the most popular ball players with the St. Louis club is William Friel; the second baseman. Friel was born and raised in Renovo and belongs to a family noted as ball players. His brother Patrick was one of the old-time players, being at one time connected with the Philadelphia team and also the Jersey City club. His brother was formerly connected with the Toledo, Ohio, club. He is considered one of the cleverest third basemen in the country. Another brother who promises to be a very clever play is Charles. Although but 15 years of age he is an expert pitcher. He has engaged in a number of games in the interior of the state, and his many admirers say he is a crackerjack. Recently he pitched a game for the relief of the striking miners, and his clever twirls are said to have been wonderful in the extreme. Next season Charles expects a position on one of the professional teams.
Their daughter, Kate, Sr M Magdalen died in 1885. Her obituary made an error, stating father was P Friel, it was Michael Friel, as noted on the index card for the obituary.
