Reedsville, Pa. - Charles Dean Schaaf, 75, of Reedsville, Pa., died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at the Lewistown Hospital. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Alice Melroy presiding. Family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. at the church. Baggus Funeral Home of Belleville, Pa., is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Church Hill Cemetery. Family will provide flowers. Schaaf was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Reedsville to Charles S. and Vera B. (Phillips) Schaaf. He married Virginia "Ginger" L. Johnson, formerly of Aberdeen, on Dec. 30, 1955. She is the daughter of the late Eddie and Ann Johnson, formerly of Aberdeen. Schaaf played professional baseball for six years with the Baltimore Orioles and for the Farm Team of the Aberdeen Pheasants in the 1950s. Following that, he worked as a sales representative for the Nabisco Company for 45 years. After retirement, he continued to work in merchandising with Nabisco for a number of years. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict in Japan. He was a member of the East Kisha- coquillas Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Trustee and Elder. He was also on the Church Hill Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Reedsville Men's Club and the Green Brush Camp in Huntingdon, Pa. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He is survived by his wife; his children, Steven "Steve" J. Schaaf and wife Michelle of Reedsville, Cynthia "Cindy" A. Aumiller and husband Michael of Reedsville, and Sandra "Sandy" S. Herto and husband Roger of Milroy, Pa.; grandchildren Lauren and Nolan Schaaf, Todge Aumiller, Samantha "Sammy", Page, and Ali Herto; sister Louise Soult and husband Glen of Lewistown, Pa.; and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Edwin Schaaf, in April 1970; his parents and his in-laws. Memorial contributions can be made to East Kish Presbyterian Church, 100 Walnut St., Reedsville, Pa., 17084 or to Armagh Field Committee, 190 Park Drive, Reedsville, Pa., 17084.
