D. Oscar Thomas, a former building contractor in the West Chester area for about 40 years and husband of Laura Rhodes Thomas, died early today at his home, 14 N. Concord rd., West Chester Gardens. He was 83.

Born in Londonderry Township, he was the son of Davis Oscar and Sarah Patrick Thomas.

Mr. Thomas made his home in the West Chester area since 1904,and was the developer of Chatwood and West Chester Gardens. He retired about 10 years ago.

His son, W. Earl Thomas, of 108 S. High St., has been a building contractor for 31 years.

Mr. Thomas was a member of the West Chester Methodist Church and West Chester Pochantas Lodge 42, IOOF.

Surviving in addition to his wife and son are another son, Paul L., of 837 Cedar ave., Chatwood; two daughters, Sara, wife of Charles F. McCullough, of Paoli and Margaret, wife of George W. Bennett, of Malvern, and 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Conn, of Glen Loch and Mrs Emma Walton, of West Grove, are deceased.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Founds Funeral Home, successor to Casper P. Hicks, 229 S. High St., West Chester, on Friday, Dec. 7, 1962, at 2 p.m. Interment in Faggs Manor Presbyterian Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening.
