Enlisted for 1 year's service on 9/17/1861 in Cleveland County, NC., on 10/25/1861 at Camp Fisher, he was mustered into Company F, 34th NC Infantry as a Corporal.
Present on all rolls until died of disease in Hotel.
His widow, Margaret, filed a Settlement Claim on 10/16/1861. She was found due $87.70.

The 34th North Carolina Infantry Regiment was assembled at High Point, North Carolina, in October, 1861. Its members were recruited in the counties of Ashe, Rutherford, Rowan, Lincoln, Cleveland, Mecklenburg, and Montgomery. After serving in the Department of North Carolina, it was sent to Virginia and placed in General Pender's and Scales' Brigade.
