Eileen C. Cameron, 97, of Bass Lake Pentater passed away early Saturday morning, October 3, 2015 with her son Daniel at her side.
Eileen was born at the Brunke family residence in Fountain on April 2, 1918 to the late Benjamin and Jesse (Raymond) Brunke. Eileen was the youngest in the Brunke family and the apple of her father's eye. Her father had grain elevators in Fountain, Free Soil, Custer and Howard City and Eileen would often accompany her dad on trips to each site.
As she grew older, she worked for her dad at the elevator in Fountain and later worked at the Roach Canning Company in Scottville along with several other businesses in Muskegon after getting married.
Eileen married Robert G. Cameron of Custer on July 17, 1935 in Pentwater. Her husband Bob told her that she was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
Eileen had a beautiful singing voice and often entertained at church, school and local events in Fountain with her sisters, LaRene and Evelyn. When Eileen was 18, a Chicago entertainment promoter auditioned her at the Brunke home and she was offered a contract on the spot. She declined the contract because her son Robert was 5 months old and the job required 50 weeks on the road as a lead band singer.
When they discovered her mother Jesse had cancer, it was Eileen who took care of her. Eileen and her husband Bob took Jesse to all of her medical appointments and Eilleen had her in her home in Muskegon for the duration of her illness. She loved both of her parents and the knew Eileen was always there for them.
They had two sons, Robert Bruce Cameron and Daniel Lee Cameron. She taught her boys the meaning of faith, loyalty, and compassion and to have respect and empathy for all people. Eileen was always a lady and her boys always adored her. Eileen was there for her son Daniels when he lost his wife Eileen M. Cameron and son Danny during childbirth.
Her love and compassion brought Daniel back out of a deep and agonizing depression and saved his life. The following year Daniel had accepted a teaching position in Tok, Alaska and he asked his folks to join him for the following school year.
Bob an dEileen were thrilled with everything they saw on the way through Canada and during their stay in Alaska. Bob unfortunately passed away in his sleep the day before school closed on May23, 1983 and he was brought back to Pentwater for burial..
"Elieen and Bob were able to spend over 47 wonderful years together. Eileen returned to Alaska with Dan the following school year and started an adventure that would last the next 32 years of her life.
They traveled extensively and she was a hostess for all the events that Dan had during his career in education.
Eileen was an avid reader, gardener, expert seamstress, lifelong dog lover, traveler, fantastic cook, dedicated fisherman. She owned an extensive doll collection, enjoyed panning for gold with Dan and picking wild low bush cranberries in Alaska which they made into a wonderful cranberry liquor.
Eileen never wanted to be the center of attention. She believed in quiet charity and was generous with her time and money. She loved people and always made time for anyone in need and her home was always open to anyone who needed a kind word, a loving hug or a war mmeal.
Eileen was a gracious hostess who always had a smile on her face. She kept a spotless home where no one left with an empty stomach.
Eileen and her son Daniel loved to track down family history. They discovered that Eileen had President Zachary Taylor and President James Madison in her family tree on her mother's side.
Jefferson Davis married one of President Taylor's daughters and she later died of malaria on the Davis Plantation.
Eileens's branch of the family fought on the side of the North as they were anti slavery while President Taylor's son fought on the side of the South.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Cameron of Windsong Lodge, Bass Lake Pentwater; grandchildren, Robert (Chris) Cameron of Hartford, Wisconsin, Scott (Merle) Cameron of Cannon Beach, Oregon, Sue (Scott) Badura of Jackson, Wisconsin, Chris (Paul) Rolandt of Cedar City, Utah; three great-grandchildren, Scotty and Rachael Badura and Miranda Rolandt; special nieces, Judy (Howe) Wilson, Betty (Conrad) Gallie-Wood, Candy Miller, Virginia Mortenson, Margery Nerheim, Shirley Ruppert, and nephew Gene Brunke; treasured grandniece, Dawn Tarr; special friends, Beth and George Jacobs and Jim Wothke all of Tok, Alaska; along with many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob; son, Robert (Carolyn) Cameron; daughter-in-law, Eileen M. Cameron; grandson, Danny Cameron; brother, Leo Brunke; sisters, Juanita Brunner, LaRene Howe-Baldwin-Hoffmeister, Evelyn Howe-Rasmussen; sisters-in-law and special friens, Fleetie Brunks and Rhodabell (McKenzie) Cameron, sisters-in-law, Mildred (Cameron) Conrad, Cassie (Cameron) Gerbers, and a niece who was more like a daughter, Patty (Cameron) Kauffman; beloved niece, Rita (Rohrmoser) Tarr.
