Dorothy Amanda Mae Haynes passed away peacefully at the young age of 96 at Tivoli in Portage on Sept. 19, 2017.

Dorothy was born Oct. 19, 1920, in Portage, the daughter of Leonard and Lillian (Kiefer) Simonson. She married Byard Haynes in 1940. She worked as an assembler for the Weyenberg Shoe Factory for many years. She received her high school diploma at age 65! Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as fishing, dancing and hunting. She was an avid supporter of the Rod and Gun Club with her close friend, Leo Pieper.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Kathy) Haynes; sister, Saffia Page; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Byard Haynes; and son, Richard Haynes.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 26, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Portage, with the Rev. Greg Hovland officiating. Inurnment will be at Pardeeville Cemetery.
