BRETT CODY BASCOM

Brett Cody Bascom, age 23, died Jan. 16, 2003 while snowmobiling with his friends. He was born March 23, 1979 in Vernal to Dennis and Carma Rae Colton Bascom. He married Misti Mortenson, and was later divorced.

He enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, four-wheeling and riding his Chick Magnet Motorcycle. Brett also loved playing with his dog, Harley. He was a member of the LDS Church. Brett lived a hard and fast life, leaving this world doing what he loved best, snowmobiling in the mountains with his friends. He loved his family and was hoping for one more family dinner.

He had pride in his work and didn't mind telling you. He let you know what he had accumulated at his young age. He missed his brother and loved his sisters. His biggest dream was to be and 18-wheeler truck driver.

His is survived by his parents of Vernal; two sisters, Scarlett (Frankie) Colon, St. George, Utah and Shauna Bascom, of Salt Lake City; grandparents, Elaine Bascom, of Jensen, and Kelly and Colleen Powell, of Vernal.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Lance Wayne Bascom; great-grandfathers, Boyd Bascom, Ted Colton; uncle, Scott Massey; and cousin, Brandon Richardson.

Funeral services were held Jan. 20 at the Vernal 3rd Ward LDS Chapel. Conducting the service was Bishop Tim Hadlock, With Barbara Lowe playig the prelude and postlude music as well as all accompaniments. In the prelude she was joined by Ellen Hadlock. Kelly Powell gave the invocation, followed by the musical number, "When He Comes Again," by Kaylynn Sheffer, Diane Morton, Kathy Quinto, and Nikell Eaton.

Bishop Nick Richens read the obituary, after which Terryl Smuin and Randy Harding spoke. Scott Gardiner followed with a few musical numbers. Bishop Tim Hadlock gave the closing remarks, after which came another musical number, "I Believe," Kaylynn Sheffer, Diane Morton, Kathy Quinto and Nikell Eaton. Carma Bascom gave the benediction, Daryl Colton gave the dedication of the grave.
Burial in the Maeser-Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Thomson Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
