Colonel Garn H. Harward, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2015 from complications associated with age.

He was born May 16, 1919 in Glenwood to Ozias Harvey Harward and Montez Bell.

He loved his family and relished life. Garn enjoyed music and golf and especially a good laugh with family and friends.

He served his country for thirty-one years in the United States Air Force as a pilot; he retired as a full-bird colonel as Director of Operation of the 438th Airlift Wing. Colonel Harward flew over 10,985 hours, travelling twice around the world with an additional trip to the South Pole.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his step-son, Michael Norriss (Shery); and granddaughter, Allison. A former spouse was LaPreal. Their son is Don L. Harward (Kathleen), granddaughter, Heidi Harward (Staci Sainsbury); step-grandson, Christopher B. Bingham (Nellie); grandson, Aaron Don Harward; step-son, John B. Bingham (Amy); step-granddaughter, Jane McAdams (Andrew); grandson, Jordon D. Harward (Steven Falls); step-grandson, Robert B. Bingham (Sarajane); granddaughter, Noelle Fitzgerald (Jeremy); and grandson, Logan Severe Harward. A former second wife was Maurine (deceased) and their daughter, Jennifer Espejo (Milo), and grandson, Matthew; son, Garn Scott Harward (Linda); grandson, Spencer; and granddaughter, Hailey. Garn was the eldest of thirteen children: La Von Harward (deceased) (La Von), Ilene Olsen (Clyde), Eva Bell Smith (Carl), Iva Lee Olsen (deceased) (Bill), Gae Olsen (Jack), Vila Dean Bland (Cecil), Golden (deceased), Val (Fern), Kenneth (Margene), Ronald (Betty), La Mont (deceased), and Terry (Gayle). Garn had twenty-four great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Please enter at 4th Avenue and cemetery "Center Street." Plot address in the cemetery is located at 445 North 1000 East.
