Charles Melvin "C. M." Hammond Jr.
Charles Melvin Hammond Jr., 67, 424 S. Valley View Circle, Indian Springs community, Kingsport, died Wednesday morning (Sept. 23, 1987) at Indian Path Hospital after a brief illness.
He was a native of Scott County, Va., and had lived in Sullivan County for the last 20 years. He retired March 1,1980 from the Tenite Division of Tennessee Eastman Company after 40 years and three months of service.
Mr. Hammond was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Wanda Frazier Hammond, Kingsport; one daughter, Carol Dougherty, Blountville; one son, Eddie Hammond, Kingsport; three grandchildren; his father, Charles Melvin Hammond Sr., Kingsport; one brother, Herschel Hammond, Kingsport. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Suiter and Darryl Pratt officiating.
Burial will be in Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
