Chesapeake - Saturday, October 10th, 2015 a most beloved man, father, husband, brother and friend, Johnie T. Butler of Chesapeake when to be with the Lord. He was 91.
Mr. Butler is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Butler, his "only child" daughter, Mary Katherine Parise, his precious son in law, Richard G. Parise, Jr, his loving brother, Ronald P. Butler of Minneapolis, MN, a sister in law, Marie Butler Padgett of Chesapeake, his nephews, nieces and favorite Grand-Cat, Phoebe Parise.
Johnie was born and raised in Aydlett, NC to Charlie Butler and Maude Butler Hill. He was predeceased by his eldest brother, Nelson W. Butler and beloved step father, William E. Hill.
Mr. Butler was a WWII Veteran, retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station as an Aviation Metal Smith and owned and operated J.T. Butler Nursery in Chesapeake for over 25 years.
Mr. Butler was a skilled craftsman with a love for creating beauty. Whether it was his beautiful furniture designs from his custom woodworking passion, his always colorful bloom filled pristine yard or his amazing vegetable garden. He was always an artist at heart.
Mr. Butler also shared a love for God's creatures. He was a avid lover of all animals.
Johnie was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Chesapeake for over 25 years and loved to be with his church family sharing the bounties from his garden and adding a nice bass tone to the church choir.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Johnie T. Butler of Chesapeake, VA.
Mr. Butler will be laid to rest privately at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date to be determined.
