Born in Roanoke, Va. and moved his family to live in Chesterfield County, Va. in 1960. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served as a police officer on the Roanoke City Police Department in the 1950’s and was a Chartered Member of the first Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Va., Old Dominion Lodge #1 in Roanoke. After leaving the police department he drove for Mid-Atlantic Greyhound Bus Lines out of Roanoke before being employed to open the Mason Dixon Motor Truck Lines Inc. Richmond terminal from which he retired after 22 years. He was a longtime member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, Henry O. Holland Sr. and Thelma Poindexter Holland; brother, Marvin Holland and brother-in-law, Clayton Hall.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Betty Holland, formerly of Roanoke; four children, H.O. “Hank” Holland III(Jo Ann), of Chesterfield, Susan Ellis(Gary) of Midlothian, Kendall Holland(Gloria) of Roanoke and Cynthia Hurd(Charlie) of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Holland, Stacy Norton(Brian), Wesley Hurd, Aaron and Michelle Holland; two great grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Norton; sisters, Reba Powell(Earl) and Elinor Hall.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Community Living Center Staff at McGuire’s. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8pm on Monday at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave. SW, Roanoke, Va. A graveside ceremony will be held 11am Tuesday at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill, Va
