HOLLAND, Henry O., 87, passed away October 13, 2015 at McGuire Veterans Medical Center in Richmond.
Born in Roanoke, Va. and moved his family to live in Chesterfield County, Va. in 1960. A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served as a police officer on the Roanoke City Police Department in the 1950’s and was a Chartered Member of the first Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Va., Old Dominion Lodge #1 in Roanoke. After leaving the police department he drove for Mid-Atlantic Greyhound Bus Lines out of Roanoke before being employed to open the Mason Dixon Motor Truck Lines Inc. Richmond terminal from which he retired after 22 years. He was a longtime member of Weatherford Memorial Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents, Henry O. Holland Sr. and Thelma Poindexter Holland; brother, Marvin Holland and brother-in-law, Clayton Hall.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Betty Holland, formerly of Roanoke; four children, H.O. “Hank” Holland III(Jo Ann), of Chesterfield, Susan Ellis(Gary) of Midlothian, Kendall Holland(Gloria) of Roanoke and Cynthia Hurd(Charlie) of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Holland, Stacy Norton(Brian), Wesley Hurd, Aaron and Michelle Holland; two great grandsons, Matthew and Jacob Norton; sisters, Reba Powell(Earl) and Elinor Hall.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8pm on Monday at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave. SW, Roanoke, Va. A graveside ceremony will be held 11am Tuesday at Mountain View Memorial Park, Boones Mill, Va
