Don Gordon Fowler, Jr. age 85, passed away at his home in Oneonta on October 13, 2015. Born September 25, 1930 in Lufkin, Texas he spent most of his first seventeen years in Marshall, Texas. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952 and continued to serve as a reservist until 1964. While assigned with the Fifth Air Force (Advanced) in Korea he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service. Don loved his country and appreciated the opportunity and experience presented by the military. Whenever the occasion arose he was quick to place "hand over heart". He retired from Hayes Targets in 1995 and moved his family to Blount County where he built their home on Straight Mountain in 1999. He was a member of Lester Memorial United Methodist Church, friends of the Oneonta Library, National Management Association, Wahouma Masonic Lodge, and the Zamora Temple.

Don is survived by Sylvia his loving wife of 63 years; son, Kelly Fowler (Karen) of Birmingham; daughter, Nancy Woodard (Dennis) of Jasper; granddaughters, Hollie Gardner (Tony) of Auburn and Amber Fowler of Moody; great grandchildren, Jacob and Samantha; sister, Mary Don Wilkerson of Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Predeceasing him are parents, Don Gordon Fowler, Sr. and Georgia Lucille Christian Fowler, brother, William Francis Fowler and sisters, Joan Berry and Marguerite Guinn. The Fowlers lost their oldest daughter, Donna Jean Fowler Tillery on January 1, 2006.

A celebration of life was held at Lester Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11AM with Bro. Barry Hallman officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Kelly Fowler, Dennis Woodard, Art Meadows, Harold Cleveland, Ed Putman, Don Rayfield, Gregg Armstrong and Tommy Stuart.

Honorary Pallbearers: Don Browning, Hal Buckelew, Carlton Putman and Verlon Tipton.
