Gordon Wellington Andersen, son of Andrew and Sigrid Lillian Banks Andersen, was born on November 1, 1925. Gordon passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at the Sidney Health Center, Sidney, Iowa.

Gordon was born on a ranch in rural Elbert County Colorado. He was the oldest of three children. He was raised in the area of Kiowa, Colorado, where he graduated from Kiowa High School in 1943. In high school Gordon was active in sports and 4-H. He also worked on his parents' ranch, his grandfather Banks' ranch and at the Kiowa garage. Following graduation he worked at the City Park Dairy in Denver where he acquired his love of dairying.

The family moved to rural Northboro, Iowa in 1945. That year Gordon was stricken with polio but recovered. In July 1945, Gordon joined the United States Merchant Marines where he served as a diesel mechanic. He was discharged in March 1946. He returned to the family farm in Locust Grove Township to take up farming with his father and brother. In March 1950, at Maryville. Missouri, he married Dorothy Maxine Veatch. They had two children, Cheryl and Wayne.

Besides farming row crops, Gordon started a Grade A dairy in 1962 and continued dairying until 1991, when Dorothy died and he retired. Gordon loved his cows, loved farming and was always trying something new in farming. Gordon had been active in Farm Bureau and a member of the MidAmerican Dairy Co-op. Gordon and Dorothy enjoyed traveling, both in the United States and abroad. Some of Gordon's happiest times were spent visiting with family and friends in his shop.

In 1992 Gordon married Betty Funkhouser Livingston. They enjoyed retirement and hoped to have ten good years together. God blessed them with eleven.
