James Edward "Jim" Beyer, age 74, of Massbach, Illinois passed away Sunday, July 9, 2006, at his home. Funeral Services will be held, 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 14, 2006 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Massbach, with Reverend Steven Andersen officiating. Burial will be in the Massbach Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth, Illinois. Memorials may be given to FHN Hospice, Freeport, Illinois and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Massbach.Jim was born on July 14, 1931, the son of Charles and Helen (Johns) Beyer in Massbach, He attended the Massbach Country School. In 1952, Jim served in the United States Marine Corp from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. On May 28, 1954, James married Joan Kirst in Clinton, Iowa.Jim and Joan settled in the Massbach area where he worked side by side with his father drilling wells and operating a threshing machine. Jim worked for the Jo Daviess Highway Department for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1995. He held memberships in the Stockton American Legion; the Hanover Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5300. He and Joan were members of the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Massbach. Jim very much loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, and raising "Sweet Corn"Jim is survived by his wife Joan of Massbach; a daughter, Nancy (David) Adams of Panora, Iowa; a son, Chuck (Rogene) Beyer of Elizabeth, Illinois; five grandchildren, Oether Adams and Fiance Bekah Carmon, Iris (Steve) Thill, Danielle, Stephanie and Brandon Beyer; two great grandchildren, Koen Thill and Lola Adams; one sister, Norma Smith of Savanna, Illinois.Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in-law, John Leland Smith and Donald Steensen.
