Sarcoxie, MO. - Lena Abbott Cory, 81, Sarcoxie, died at 8:20 PM Monday, October 6, 1997 At a Sarcoxie nursing home after a long illness. Mrs. Cory was born May 29, 1916 at Danville, Arkansas. She moved to the Sarcoxie area in 1987 from California. Lena was a licensed vocational nurse for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Mother Lode Art Association, the Aranas club and Unity church, all of Sonora California and the Progress Club in Sarcoxie. Lena was a volunteer at the Gene Taylor Museum in Sarcoxie and was active with the Senior Citizen Center in Sarcoxie. She married John J. Cory on October 6, 1949 at Oakland, California. He died in 1992. A son, Charles (Chuck) Cory also preceded her in death. Survivors include a brother, Raymond Abbott, Petaluma, California, a stepsister, Leola Garner, Ash Grove, two grandchildren, Charles and Leander Cory, and a great-granddaughter. The body will be cremated. Private memorial services will be scheduled later. Arrangements are under the direction of Ulmer Funeral Home, Carthage, MO.
