Galva – Walter H. Goodrich, 71 of 518 N.W. Eighth St. Galva, died at 10:05am Friday 5 June 1992 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, IL.
The Galva Fusslliers will accord graveside military rites in Galva Cemetery. Walter was born 23 Dec. 1920 in Clarke County, Greenbay Twp, Iowa. He was son of Ray A. and Zilpha (Stubbs) Goodrich. He married Lela Woods on 14 Dec 1940 in Osceola, Iowa.
She survives as well as one son. Arthur of Woodhull, seven daughters, Donna Werkheiser, Libby of Galesburg, Joyce Goodrich of Genoa, Mrs. George (Judy) Neel of Lewisburg, Ky. Dixie Robertson of Park ridge. Mrs. Gary (Connie) Yocum of DeLong, Mrs. Dan (Debra) Lawson of Monmouth and Mrs. John (Denise) Stevens of East Galesburg; three brothers Ivan of Garland Utah; James and Robert of Wellman iowa, seven sisters Evan Green; Rebecca Hatfield, Rose Northway, Patricia Carson and Lily Myers of Osceloa, Iowa; Enid Honnald of Des Moines, Iowa and Ramona Oberg of Lehigh Acres, Fl; 14 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons in infancy; Roger Allen and Walter H. Jr. ; one granddaughter Darla Jean Werkheiser and one brother Ray Andrew Goodrich.
He had worked at Galva Iron and Metal 27 years, then I.M.E. in Galva, retiring in 1985. He was an Army World War II veteran and was also honorably discharged from the Civilian Conservation Corp. He has worked part time as a policeman in Galva, was affiliated with the Galva First Baptist Church, a member of Galva American Legion Hagberg-Hamlin Post 45. Hook and Bullet Club in Victoria and was active in his early years with Little League and also coached them at the Galva Park District.
