Born in Port Arthur, Texas. Navy Ensign Jack Hill Camp was living in Texas when World War II was declared. Serving in the Naval Reserve, Ensign Camp reported to active duty and was assigned to PBY Squadron 44 on Midway Island. While on a scouting patrol, They spotted the Japanese aircraft carrier group that was heading toward the American held field. The slow moving Catalina was spotted and shot down by enemy fire, but not before relaying critical data to the American forces. Being wounded in the attack that forced his aircraft down. Camp was helped into the life raft by fellow crew members but was killed when the raft was strafed by enemy fire. Ensign Camp was buried at sea on June 7, 1942.
