Actress. Born in Cambridge, England, she began appearing on the London stage before World War I and entered films in 1915. She later settled in the United States and had a busy career as a character actress in Hollywood films. Her movie credits include "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor" (1918), "Nance" (1920), "The Tower of London" (1926), "The Primrose Path" (1934), "Ladies in Retirement" (1941), "You Were Never Lovelier" (1942), "The White Cliffs of Dover" (1944), "Of Human Bondage" (1946), "Monsieur Verdoux" (1947), "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" (1947), "Love is a Many Splendored Thing" (1955), "20 Paces to Baker Street" (1956), "Lust for Life" (1956), "The Second Time Around" (1961), "Who's Minding the Store?" (1963) and "My Fair Lady" (1964). She died at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills, California.
