Obituary

Born: May 10, 1923
Died: October 11, 2015

Opal Rhae Eastin King, 92, died Sunday morning, October 11, at her son's home in Abilene, Texas, where she had lived for the past four years after a brief hospital and nursing home stay. She will buried alongside her husband at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will welcome friends to a brief memorial service at 10:00 am in the Piersall-Benton Chapel, 733 Butternut St., with a time of visitation to follow.

Opal was born May 10, 1923, in Shawnee, Wyoming, to Benjamin Harrison Eastin and Pearl Elizabeth Webber Eastin, born the seventh of eight siblings and raised in Oklahoma where she graduated from Ramona High School near Bartlesville.

She married Eulin Louis King on February 15, 1942. They moved to Bettendorf, Iowa, in 1948 and raised their three children as members of the Central Church of Christ in Davenport. They moved to Abilene in 1986 and were members of the 11th and Willis Church of Christ until their deaths.

Opal loved to sew, paint, garden, and have people over. Early in the marriage when finances were tight, she always tried to have a garden to make sure she would have plenty to feed those she invited home to dinner after church on Sundays, especially students from the Palmer College of Chiropractic there in Davenport.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings, her husband of 60 years, Eulin, a daughter, Julia Louise Davis, a grandson, Douglas Weede, and many of her closest friends from church.

She is survived by her childhood friend and sister-in-law, Marguerite Eastin, a daughter, Patricia Ann Weede and her husband Roger, a son, David King and his wife Susan, five grandchildren, Sherry Elaine Smith, Christine Marie Walker, Matthew David King, Amanda Beth Parker, and Carrie Elisabeth King, nine great grandchildren, beloved nieces and nephews in Oklahoma and Texas, and longtime friends, Bettye Alley from her child-rearing days in Davenport and Janie Ramirez who helped the family with her care in her declining years.

The family is deeply grateful for the continuing love of many in the 11th & Willis church family for their love and kindnesses toward Opal over the 29 years she was a member there, especially in the last 13 years after the loss of her mate.
