John Fanning married in abt. 1798 to Mary "Polly" Davis (1771-1861), daughter of John Davis and Mary Hutsell of Wythe County, Virginia. They had one daughter, Delilah Fanning, b. abt. 1799/1800. They divorced shortly thereafter as in February 1799 as Polly Davis presented a petition to court and she was granted the right to bring action against her husband John for alimony. Polly married 2nd, Larkin Johnson (1766-1852) of Wythe County, VA.
It is not known if John Fanning married again, additional research is needed.
