Helen English Black passed away peacefully Sunday, December 21, 1997.

She was born in Bingham Canyon, Utah to Harry C. and Mary Ann (Mamie) English. She married George W. Black Dec. 6, 1941.

After graduating from Bingham High School, she attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in elementary and secondary education. She taught school in the Jordan School District.

She worked extensively with the Jordan PTA and received the Utah State PTA Lifetime Membership Award.

She returned to school and graduated with degrees in Nursing form Salt Lake General Hospital and the University of Oregon School of Public Health Nursing. As a Public Health Nurse, she worked for the State of Utah, Salt Lake County Department of Health and Jordan School District. She received certification as a Rehabilitation Nurse from the New York University Rusk Institutes of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and from Rancho Los Amegos in Downey, Calif.

She was an active member of Centenary Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of Mizpah Chapter #5, OES and past Worthy High Priestess of Bethlehem Shrine #1, White Shrine of Jerusalem.

She served as president of the Ladies Literary Club and the Utah State Nurses Association. She was a past member of the Utah State Women's Legislative Council working on public health and education issues.

She is survived by her daughter, Georgianna; her canine companion, "Freddy," and many loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, George William; her parents; her daughter, Georgia Harriett; and brothers, Harley, Walter and Frank English.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kent DiFiore, Dr. Gregory Litton and Dr. John B. Stanchfield, for their wise and compassionate medical care and support. Many thanks to Vista Care Hospice, and CSN's Kathy Baird, Heather Houton, Fran Riley, and Chuck Riley. Thanks are also extended to her many friends and the members of Grace Circle.

A special thanks to Leon and Bertha Davis and their family whose friendship and caring allowed her to stay in her home until the end.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends one hour prior. Interment, Mount Olivet Cemetery.
