Edward Lewis Semler was born July 22, 1932 in Washington County near Wellman, Iowa, the son of Frederick Kari and Mae Florence(Stump)Semler. He attend Rural Country School Union #1 and graduated from Wellman High School in 1950. Ed was united in marriage to Ruth Swanson on June 15, 1956 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellman. He has lived in the Wellman community all of his life where he owned and operated Semler Hardware for 30 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wellman and a member of the Jolly Men's Club. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed draft horses and working on his acreage. Ed passed away Thursday October 8, 2015 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 83.

Ed is survived by his wife Ruth of Wellman; a son: Scott(Sheila)Semler of Cedar Rapids; and a brother Leo(Karen)Semler of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joe, George, and Donald, and two sisters, Dorothy Lemley, and Clara Jordan.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Pastor Terry Small will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1-7 pm on Tuesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where the family will greet friends from 5-7 pm. A memorial fund has been established for the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Hospice Campassus.
