He was the only member of his family to have settled in Utah, having joined with a Mormon wagon train in mid 1860's. He walked with a limp and cane due to injury of his foot or leg after having jumped from a second story window. None of his family ever had any contact with him nor did they know what became of him after he left Missouri. His wife died when his last of eleven children was six years old. He was a widower for twenty years. He taught his children to be loyal to one another. They were a tight bunch and very southern in spirit, attitude, language etc. He is buried with his head south feet north.
