Rex L. Anderson 93, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015.

He was born on August 26, 1921 in Wabash County to Dennie and Lola Anderson. After Graduating from Wabash High School, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Earlham College. Rex excelled in both academics and athletics and was a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame at both schools. In the V-7 program, Rex attended Naval Officer Training School at Columbia University and then moved to PT boat training in Newport, Rhode Island. As a lieutenant, he served as the commanding officer of the PT boats 130 and 156 during his two tours of duty in the South Pacific in WWII.

Rex married Barbara Bogue on December 17, 1944 while on leave before his second tour. Rex returned to Earlham College where he taught and coached for 2 years. His family then moved to Indianapolis where he taught history and physical education and served as a guidance counselor and basketball and track coach at Howe High School for 31 years.

After retiring in 1978, Rex enjoyed traveling, golfing and many days of fishing and boating on Lamb Lake in Trafalgar with his family and friends. He lived in Englewood, Florida for 22 years before returning to Indiana in 2004.

Besides his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his son, Brent Anderson.

He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 70 years; his daughter, Lynne (Brooks) Tanksley; grandson, Brad (Jenni) Tanksley; and great-grandchildren, Brendan and Brooke Tanksley. The family extends their gratitude to all employees of Legacy at Greenfield for the wonderful care, compassion and friendship they provided.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 4 p.m. 7 p.m. in Little and Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Rd, Indianapolis. A private family service to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association , American Cancer Society or the organization of your choice.
