Melba Dean Throgmorton Chiesna of Roseburg, Oregon, and lately of Boise, Idaho, was born on August 20, 1925, in Karnak, Illinois. She just celebrated her 90th birthday and her 61st wedding anniversary with her husband, Theodore. She went to be with our Lord, passing quietly in her sleep Sunday morning. As the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister,, she enjoyed church on Sundays. Melba was a mother, grandmother, and wife full of love for her family and a deep abiding faith in God.

She is survived by her children, Mark and Kristin Chiesna both of Roseburg, and Melissa Chiesna Pratt (Kym); and her two grandchildren, Isabella Pratt and Trevor Pratt all of Boise.

She is predeceased by her mother, Ruth Huckleberry Arnett; her step-father, William C. Arnett; her father, Charles Earl Throgmorton; her sister, Johnnie Louise Scriba; and two siblings that passed as youths, Charles Earl, Jr., and Mary Ruth.

During WWII, she, her mother and sister were Rosie the Riveters, making munitions and planes for the war effort in Evansville, IN. She earned a secretarial degree and used these skills for the Illinois Health Department, at a steel company, and later for Douglas County, Oregon, where she retired.

Her husband, Ted, got his Masters in Forestry following his service in WWII. He then moved to Oregon for a job with the BLM. With her toddler, Mark, and a trailer in tow, she drove across the country alone to join Ted on a big Oregon adventure.

She was a Sunday school teacher and member of the First United Methodist Church of Roseburg and her family literally helped to build that church by carrying rocks for the foundation. Melba was President of the Garden Club and volunteered at Douglas Community Hospital for years.

A graveside service will be held at Roseburg Memorial Gardens on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at noon and a memorial service will be held in Boise.

(Obit published in the Roseburg, OR "The News-Review" on Sept. 23, 2015.)

Note that her obit published in the Boise, Idaho "Idaho Statesman" on Sept. 23, 2015 does not mention Roseburg Memorial Gardens, just that a service was to be held in Roseburg. Therefore, this memorial was moved from Roseburg Memorial Gardens to Roseburg National Cem.
