Mr. Leonard Emmett Farmer, age 89, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Saturday (October 10, 2015) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born April 27, 1926 in Bee, Virginia, he was a son of the late Emmett Sanders and Virgie O’Quinn Farmer. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of the Lebanon Church of Christ for thirty years, where he had formerly served as an Elder. A disabled coal miner, he was formerly employed by Clinchfield Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Finis Farmer and Gaines Farmer.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Alice Nuckles Farmer of the home; two daughters, Gaynell Bostic and husband, Rick of Honaker, Virginia and Betty Harrison and husband, Edward of Abingdon, Virginia; three sons, Johnny Farmer and wife, Rosa and David Farmer both of Honaker, Virginia and Delmer Farmer and wife, Angela of Abingdon, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Lee Farmer, Donna Owens, Scottie Farmer, Rachel Gilmer, Hannah Bostic, Anna Bostic, Dustin Farmer, Zachery Farmer, Luke Harrison and Kathryn Harrison; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Farmer, Abigail Farmer, Julianna Farmer, Max Owens, Mia Owens, Avie Gilmer, Iley Gilmer, and Skyler Mitchell; four brothers, Brady Farmer and wife, Ada of Council, Virginia, Raleigh Farmer and wife, Joan, Ivel Farmer and Everett Farmer all of Michigan; five sisters, Edna Owens of Bristol, Virginia, Lona Turner of Warrenton, Virginia, Nellie Hamilton and husband, Jimmy of Michigan, Erma Rose and husband, Hillard of Ohio, and Margie Sanderson of Indiana; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Lebanon Church of Christ in Lebanon, Virginia with Minister Keith Hovis and Minister Ron Epling officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of the Lebanon Church of Christ.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Monday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Minister Wesley Simmons officiating.
