Alfred Ferdinand Fritz Jahrmarkt was born to his loving parents Friedrich W. "Fred" and Martha (Retke) Jahrmarkt on Tuesday December 20, 1910 in rural Snyder, Dodge County Nebraska. Alfred attended the Snyder schools. Alfred was united in marriage to Helena Tobola on Monday August 24, 1936 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pender, Thurston County. The couple were first employed on a farm near Fremont, Dodge County. Later the couple lived on a farm near Leigh, Colfax County until 1946, then moved to a farm south of Dodge, Dodge County in the Glencoe area. They were blessed over the years of marriage with two adopted children, a daughter and a son. Alfred loved farming the land, but there were challenging moments. I recall when their farm barn burned to the ground, a total lost. Alfred was hit hard emotionally, I believe all the livestock was able to get out alive. I recall my folks would pool their money together with the Jahrmarkt's money to purchase fireworks for the 4th of July. One year a pop bottle rocket went half way up and then came down on the fireworks table. We had our 4th in less than ten minutes. Fireworks were going in every direction, so was everyone there. Our families had many good times together, Alfred and Helen had a good sense of humor. Alfred and Helen retired in 1970 and continued living on the farm. Alfred lived his last two years at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner, Dodge County. Sadly Alfred passed on Sunday March 31, 1996 at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, Cuming County. Alfred lived to 85 years, 3 months, 11 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 31,148 days. Alfred's funeral service was held Wednesday April 3, 1996 at the New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, Colfax County. Interment was in the Bohemian National Cemetery in lot 77. This cemetery is also known as the Czech National or Clarkson Cemetery. Alfred's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Alfred by a family friend Loren R. I believe all lives matter, even the lives of those who have passed. Many details are still missing from his life, if you have any more details I will be happy to edit the additional information into this biography.
