First female poet of Puerto Rico. Daughter of Lieutenant José Benítez and Juana Bautista Constanza. Her father was subdelegate for the Hacienda in Ponce during the English Invasion of 1797. Raised an orphaned niece who followed her steps as a poet: Alejandrina Benítez De Arce
