Billie was born January 24, 1925 in Newburg, TX.
She attended school at Texas A & I College in her twenties and attained her Associate Degree of Arts from Westark Community College in her forties. She was an avid researcher of Biblical Studies, often self publishing her writings and her journal called The Researcher. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church , where she played the piano in the 1950s, and in her later years she attended Fianna Hills Baptist Church . Billie had a beautiful, loving heart and adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as "Neenaw." She also loved to write letters to her sisters and record all the things happening around her. She had a knack for telling the best details about an event, and for finding humor in any situation.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Glendon Hays Sr., and her parents, Arla Edward Hallford and Willie Couch Hallford.
She is survived by her three sisters, Dorothy Jackson of Salado, TX, Patricia Williams of Carrollton, TX, and Lou Helen White of Kingston, OK, her children Hank G. Hays, Jr. of Fort Smith, Patsy Beckham of Booneville, Jo Dodson of Hot Springs and Becky Martin of Fort Smith, and her twelve grandchildren, Brandon Beckham, Kathy Herr, Susannah Rodgers, Hal Hays, Beau Beckham, Sarah Ridgley, Bart Beckham, Elizabeth Williams, Katy Weaver, Ben Dodson, Cy Martin and Andy Martin, and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons Brandon Beckham, Beau Beckham, Bart Beckham, Hal Hays, Cy Martin, Andy Martin, and Ben Dodson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Herr, Jeff Rodgers, Kevin Ridgley, Clint Williams, and Tristan Weaver.
Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday at Fort Smith National Cemetery with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
