Peter D. Hoffman, 79, of Southington, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at home. He was born September 8, 1931 in Southington, into a family that has lived in the township since 1838, the son of Harold Peter and Nina (Durr) Hoffman.
A 1950 graduate of Chalker High School, Mr. Hoffman served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He worked for Halsey-Taylor Corp. and retired as a millwright for General Motors. A member of Southington United Methodist Church and the West Farmington Pythian Lodge, he was an avid bowler who once bowled a 299 game. He also enjoyed hunting, golf, basketball, and fast-pitch softball.
Surviving are three children: Bruce D. (Pam) Hoffman of Champion, Jeffrey S. (Donna) Hoffman of Southington, and Dawn D. (Donald) Maurer of Leavittsburg; six grandchildren: Michael Hoffman, Amanda (Adam) Lawn, Jennifer Fleming, Theresa Hoffamn, and Peter and Blake Maurer; and eight great-grandchildren: Leanna, Nathan, Kaitlynn, Kiera, Trenton, Emily, Kaden, and Ella. Preceding him in death are his wife, Effie T. “Teddy” Hoffman, whom he married July 23, 1955 and who died December 27, 2006; and a sister, Marianne Rhodes.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at McFarland & Son Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park.
