Mrs. Mary B. Shoemaker, 85, a longtime resident of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Born in Atlanta on May 21, 1923 to the late Jesse and Elizabeth Baker, Mary was raised in Charleston, SC. She loved playing bridge, penny poker, bowling and bingo. Mary loved the holidays and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grand children, of whom she was very proud. Memories of her will be loving ones of a long and wonderful life filled with the love of family and friends. Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Frank; her brother, David Baker; and her sister, Irene Seay. Mary is survived by her daughters, Annette Massey and husband, Jerry of Port Charlotte, FL, Irene Cawthon and husband Bill of Norcross, GA, and Lisa Moore of Grayson, GA; sons, Joe Shoemaker and wife KiHwan of Covington, GA, Tim Shoemaker and wife Janet of Avondale Estates, GA, Robert Shoemaker and wife Anne of Decatur, GA and James Shoemaker of Snellville, GA; sisters, Goldie Lipsey and Teresa Reeves both of Toccoa, GA and Doris Wright of Charleston, SC; brother, Marion Baker of Charleston, SC; twenty grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 7th at 12:30 P.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Monsignor Paul Fogarty officiating. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic School, 630 W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
