Joan Marie Mankin was born on May 21, 1937 in Davidson County, Tennessee, the daughter of Jasper William Mankin (1889–1983) and Lyda Belle (Wilder) Mankin (1905–1997) of 1232 Lillian Street, Nashville.
She was little more than 3½ years old when she died of acute Rheumatic fever on November 29, 1940 at Nashville's Vanderbilt Hospital where she had been for eight days. Burial was on December 1st in Clark Cemetery, Smyrna.
