MRS. MARY SANKEY HAS PASSED AWAY.

The people of this city will learn with extreme regret of the death of Mrs. Mary Sankey of West Washington street, widow of the Hon. David Sankey, whose death occurred a number of years ago.

The sad event took place at 1:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at her home. For sometime she had been failing and her life ebbed peacefully away.

Mrs, Sankoy was the mother of Ira D. Sankey, the great evangelist, and several other children. Her maiden name was Mary Leeper, and she was the daughter of John Leeper, one of the pioneers of this county. She was born July 17, 1811, and was married on Sept. 2, 1830. She was the mother of seven sons and four daughters. Of these, but two are now living, Ira D. Sankey and Watson Sankey, who is now with Ira D. in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Sankey was a woman whom it was a pleasure to to know and the most sincere sorrow will be felt that her long and active life has closed. She was possessed of the truest faith in her religion and she has but gone to the Heaven to which her thoughts had always been directed, to join her husband and the children who had preceded her there. Her husband was for many years one of the most prominent men of this city and he will be remembered by all of the older residents.
