Olive was a beloved wife, mother, and neighbor, as well as a leader in her church and community.

Margaret "Olive" (Davis) Holcomb was born Aug. 2, 1917 in Irondale, OH, the seventh of ten children born to Alonzo and Margaret Belle (Bailey) Davis. She passed away Dec. 15, 2009.

Olive came to Vancouver, WA as the wife of Dorman Wayne Holcomb, to whom she was married on Sept. 21, 1940 in Battle Creek, MI. Olive and Dorman were an integral part of a close-knit neighborhood on 54th Avenue where they hosted an annual Fourth of July breakfast.

The Holcombs danced, played cards, gardened, and traveled extensively. Olive was known for her delicious pies. The mother of Dorman Ladd, Ward, and Sharon, Olive served as a Cub Scout leader and as PTA President at Peter S. Ogden Elementary. She was an active member of Vancouver's First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, initially at the church's location on Evergreen Blvd. then later at the current Main Street location. She also served as Sunday School Director, Deacon, and was an active member of the Presbyterian Women. Olive loved to paint and was a member of the Society of Washington artists and the Clark County Fine Arts Group.

Olive is survived by two sons and a daughter: Dorman Ladd Holcomb and his wife Sue, of Vancouver, Ward Holcomb and his wife Cassy of Battle Ground, and Sharon Holcomb and her husband Fred Farnell of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Ty, Lang, and Michael Holcomb, Rebecca Wuethrich, and Matthew, Patrick, and Ariane Farnell; great-grandchildren, Emily, Katalina, Joshua, Tanner, Alexander and Zander; and by two of her sisters, Gloria Gill of Hammondsville, OH and Shirley VanderJagt of Cadillac, MI.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman on Nov. 26, 1987; and by her sisters, Erla "Peggy" Johnson, Opal Romick, Ina May Nicholson; and brothers, William, Charles, Alonzo Raymond "Toot," and Gerald "Dutch" Davis.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Sat., Dec. 19, at 3:00 p.m. with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Pleasant Valley Middle School, 14320 N.E. 50th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98686.
