Larry Wayne Morrison, 68, of Mahanoy City, formerly of Tamaqua, died Thursday in Danville. He was the husband of Carol A. Kline Morrison, to who he was married for 49 years. Born in Quakake, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Florence E. Lorah Morrison. He was a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, Class of 1965.

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. Larry enlisted in the Army on May 12, 1966. After serving his country for 20 years, he retired July 31, 1986, as a master sergeant E-8. During his career, he was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C,; Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Dix, N.J.; Mannheim, West Germany; Fort Sill, Okla.; Kaiserslautern, West Germany; Phu Bai and Da Nang, Vietnam; Fort Carson, Colo.; Fort Campbell, Ky.; Heidelberg, West Germany; Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., and finally the Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C. Larry also worked as a military pay supervisor (Grade GS-10) in the Federal Civil Service at the U.S. Army Defense Finance and Accounting Center, Indianapolis, Ind.

During his first tour in West Germany, Larry and his wife took a tour of England, France and Belgium. They stood outside the gates of Buckingham Palace and witnessed the changing of the guards.

He was of the Lutheran faith.

Larry was a member of the ASPCA, Golden Age of Mahanoy City, American Legion Post 74, VFW Hall-Reese Post 1420 and the Travel Protective Association of Mahanoy City.

Larry loved hunting and being a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter "Tom," Richard "Rich" and an infant brother, John; one sister, Jeanette "Jen" Wall.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Larry W. Morrison Jr. and his wife, Shannon (Manbeck), Frackville, and Brian L. Morrison and his wife, Toni (Cole), Hastings, Fla.; two daughters, Nichole Simpson, Fayetteville, N.C., and Natalie A. Morrison, Mahanoy City; two grandchildren, Logan and Brianna Morrison, both of Hastings.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lamar Christ Funeral Home, 31 Mahanoy Ave., Tamaqua, with the Rev. Fred T. Crawford officiating. Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , 101 W. Frack St., Frackville, PA 17931.
