George William Cook was born in 1885 in Grantham, Lincolnshire the son of William and Mary Eliza Cook. In 1908 he married Florence Small, they had two sons, George Sidney in 1913 and Denis in 1914.
L Cpl 11861 - Lincolnshire Regiment - Grantham Journal 24th Dec 1915 says he was " wounded now reported missing" His death was not confirmed until almost a year later and appeared in the newspaper on 2nd Dec 1916

Mrs Florence Cook, of 29, Commercial Road, has this week been notified that her husband, Corpl. Geo. W. Cook, who was reported missing since September, 1915, is now presumed dead. Joined the Lincolnshire Regiment September, 1914, and went abroad twelve months later. Formerly in the employ of Mr. Nickerson, Market Place.
