Steven Joe "Chump" Chambers, 61, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at his home in Jacksonville.

He was born June 27, 1954, in Springfield, the son of Ralph and Jennie Jo Leedy Chambers. He married Pam Williams on Feb. 22, 1974, and she survives.

Steve is also survived by two children, Tricia (Richie) Ulery of Carrollton, and Luke (Amanda Hunt) Chambers of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Ethyan Flynn, Katera Ulery, Grayce Chambers, and Garret Ulery; his mother, Jennie Hester of Jacksonville; his father, Ralph (Carolyn) Chambers of Sherman; three sisters, Sheri (Daniel) Funk of Flat Rock, Kimberly Bunn of Quincy, Cheryl (Brian) Wheatley of Sugar Grove; three brothers, Mark (Lisa) Chambers of Jacksonville, Ralph (Jenny) Chambers of Mechanicsburg, and Michael (Tracey) Chambers of Athens; and several nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hester, by whom he was raised; and one brother, Billy Hester, Jr. (surviving wife, Cathy Booth of Jacksonville.)

Steve was an installer with Mediacom for over 20 years. He later worked as a bus driver for the Head Start Program for three years and served as administrator of the Jacksonville Moose Lodge for over five years. Steve was a member and past state commander of the Sons of the American Legion, and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Moose Riders. Steve loved playing softball and was instrumental in the development of the American Legion softball diamond. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini basketball, and helping others. He cherished his grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and Moose Rites will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Mooseheart.
