When Carrie E. Braswell was born on June 6, 1896, in Alton, Missouri, her father, Thomas Jefferson Braswell, was 43 and her mother, Martha Belle Whitten Braswell, was 29. She had two children with her first husband, Vernon L. Cline, between 1914 and 1916, Sylvia Lee and Lily Grace. Her first husband died in 1920. In 1925, she married Robert Ely Bolen and they had two children together between 1926 and 1928, Sarah Belle (Sally) and Robert Harvey Bolen. She lived most of her younger adult life in Missouri (Alton, Nevada and Joplin). She moved to Texas in the late 1950s, and lived in Waco, Dallas, Corpus Christi and De Soto. She was a Southern Baptist. She died on December 16, 1987, in De Soto, Texas, at the age of 91.
