He was born on March 10, 1898 in Jasper County, the son of William and Caroline (Weideman) Postma. He spent most of his lifetime in Jasper County.
On Dec. 30, 1920 at Newton, he was united in marriage to Ione Risewick who survives him along with three children: Alice, (Mrs. Willard) Kaldenberg; Hubert Postma both of Pella and Darlene (Mrs. Ralph) Stewart of Monroe. There are six grandchildren surviving him along with seven brothers and sisters: Charlie of Deep River; Mrs. Ivan (Bertha) Woody of Newton; Clayton of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Walter (Carrie) Sayre; Mrs. Ernest (Cecyle) Main; Oren; and Mrs. Melvin (Gladys) Rucker, all of Newton.
Mr. Postma was preceded in death by his parents; one son Harold, and one brother, Wilbur. Richard made a profession of his faith in the Tool's Chapel Church as a young man.
