Squadron A Cavalry reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division,he was assigned to Company A. Discharged from the service Jan 12, 1918, at Camp Wadsworth, SC, by Surgeon's Certificate of Disability.

He served in Troop A ( Squadron A ) & Company A, 105th Machine Gun Battalion with his cousin Lewis C. Popham.
