A great man left this earth Saturday, October 3, 2015. Known by many names to friends and family (Lewis, Jr., Sam, Daddy, & Papa) he was born February 18, 1926 to the late Lewis E. & Georgia Busbee Cook on the Monaghan Mill Village. He attended Parker High School & left to join the Navy where he served with the Admiralty Islands Expeditionary Force on the USS Acorn during World War II. One of his major jobs during the War was to ferry the soldiers from ship to shore, piloting an amphibious craft. He later took his GED where he received the highest score in South Carolina at that time. When he returned from the War, he married the love of his life, Ganell Barbare. They were married for 67 years. Mr. Cook worked at many different positions with Monaghan Mill, Gaylord Box Container & Carolina Egg Producers. Then, after a major heart attack at the age of 47, he taught himself carpentry & various odd job skills which he used remodeling & restoring houses. He was also a News Carrier for the Greenville News.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cook is survived by his second love, his family: two daughters, Terry Cook & Scarlett(Cookie) Barbare; a son-in-law, Billy; two grandchildren, Heather Earnest Lowery & Chris Earnest(Michelle); Five Great-grandchildren, Robbin Lowery(Kevin), Jordan Lowery, Justin Lowery(Adara), Christyn Earnest & Trey Earnest; a Great-great grandchild, Vivienne Lowery; & a brother, Bob Cook(Faye). He was predeceased by a sister, Doris Harvey(Johnny). Mr. Cook enjoyed riding his tractor over his Ponderosa, sitting on his back porch, & desserts! He was a wonderful man loved by many and will be greatly missed. The visitation will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with the burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery, West.
