Philip W. Berlitz, 80, of 302 E. Green St., West Hazleton, died Saturday afternoon at the Hazleton General Hospital where he was a patient one month. He was born in Audenried, son of the late Daniel and Jessie May (Bachman) Berlitz. He was a member and served as deacon for many years of Christ Memorial United Church of Christ, West Hazleton. He had been a partner and president of Berlitz Brothers Moving and Storage Company, retiring in 1974 after 49 years in the business. He was a member and past master of Azalea Lodge No. 687 F&AM from which he received his 25-year pin. He was also a member of both the Lehigh and Caldwell Consistories, 43nd Degree; the Missouri Lodge of Research; representative in Grand Lodge in 1970 and 1971; senior instructor in the 45th Masonic District School; and chairman of the Masonic Culture Committee in the 45th Masonic District. He was also a board member of the Rainbow Girls and Past Rainbow Dad for the Rainbow Girls from 1972 to 1976 and received the Grand Cross of Color from the Rainbow Girls in 1975.

Preceding him in death were his wife, the former Viola Boyle, in 1978, a brother, Fred W. Berlitz; and two sisters, Eleanor Sorkolowski and Dora Novak. Surviving are a daughter, also a sister, Mrs. Blanche Klinesmith, Hazleton; two brothers, Harry and Henry Berlitz, West Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. from the Rosenstock Funeral Home, 229 W. Broad St. The Rev. Arthur Roberts, pastor of Christ Memorial United Church of Christ, will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Masonic section of Mount Laurel Memorial Park, Hazleton. Friends may call from 7 to 9 this evening. Masonic services will be held at 7:30 this evening at the funeral home.
